Katie Chan (陳靄淇) is a product of the English and Chinese schools within Alhambra, going to Marguerita, Dewey, Ynez Elementary School, and Sun Yat Sen Chinese Institute. Her parents immigrated from Hong Kong and Vietnam, making immense sacrifices to establish a life in Alhambra. She learned about hard work from her immigrant parents and from within the Alhambra community that helped raise her.
Katie’s educational path took her through Mark Keppel High School and East Los Angeles College before culminating in her studies at UCLA, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology with a Minor in Geography. Throughout her journey, she was deeply involved in extracurricular activities focused on helping people learn to read, have access to healthy food, and live healthy lives in a better world.
Katie gained invaluable experience in public policy, where she saw firsthand the impact of effective leadership in creating real change and she will bring this experience and unwavering determination to Alhambra.
After graduating, Katie got involved in public policy, doing pro bono work at the Public Counsel law firm. Most recently she is a caseworker for the City of Los Angeles for Councilwoman Eunisses Hernandez and was appointed by Alhambra City Councilwoman Sasha Renee-Perez as the President and Commissioner of the Environmental & Sustainability Commission for the city of Alhambra District 4.
Katie is proud to call Alhambra her home and can’t wait to help this city expand public transit, affordable housing, tenant’s rights, and sustainability. As Katie embarks on her journey to serve her hometown, she extends her gratitude to the community that shaped her. With a shared vision of an Alhambra that thrives and flourishes, she anticipates collaborating with her fellow residents to work towards improving the city’s quality of life, making it healthier, and more inclusive for all.
Housing is a human right and a large issue across California and the San Gabriel Valley. We have many people wanting to move into Alhambra and many people struggling to make rent. Some housing units are occupied but unsafe. To remedy this, we need someone who will fight for safe and affordable housing.

Climate change is a large and existential issue across the country and we can play our part in Alhambra to address it. I have a history of climate advocacy in college and here in Alhambra on the Environmental Sustainability Commission.

Transportation is a difficult issue for most of us. Many residents and elders in our community would love to move around via public transportation but are currently hindered by 67% of District 4 not having access to city bus transit routes. While public transportation has dramatically improved in Alhambra due to a strong political will by the current city council, we need to keep moving in that direction.
